What It’s like to Hire a Husband & Wife Wedding Photography Team

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS

I’m starting this blog with a quote from one of our 2024 brides, because it sums up the experience so nicely:

“You truly are the best person to have for weddings – so many people came up to me today and were amazed at you and Tyler. Someone was like – your photographers have great chemistry with each other and the way they work together – and I’m like yes they’re married.”

So why should you have a husband/wife photography team for your wedding?

Chemistry and Coordination

A husband and wife team often has a natural rapport and understanding of each other’s work styles. This can result in better coverage of your wedding day, with each photographer capturing different angles and moments without stepping on each other’s toes. Or knowing juuust how much we are able to step on each other’s toes.

Comfort and Ease of Posing:

It’s nice to work with two people that have been where you are. And since we’ve been there, we know the poses ourselves. I didn’t even realize we do this until a bride mentioned it, but Tyler and I often act out the poses together as I am explaining them to you.

Consistency in Style:

My website and social media are filled with photos taken by Tyler. I am proud of his work and trust him to get the shots I need. You already know you like his work when you hire us. As a couple, we likely have a unified vision and style, so your wedding photos will have a consistent look and feel. This can be particularly important for creating a coordinated wedding album.

Diverse Perspectives:

I say I taught Tyler everything he knows, but if I’m being honest he has a creativity that you can’t teach. His ideas and perspectives are unique to him and different from mine. So not only are the angles he gets different, but he provides a richer and more varied collection of photos.

Understanding and Empathy: We get it. On our own wedding day we didn’t have the best experience with photography. I would do anything to change it, but I think it really drove home the importance of what we do. Not only that, but we understand the significance of your wedding day and the emotions involved.

Efficiency and Reliability: Just as I would trust Tyler with my life, I would trust him with your day. He knows how important your wedding is, so I trust him to prioritize it more than I would anyone else. He also knows me. So he knows the places I might need extra help from him. Having him there to help manage the day’s schedule is crucial to keep things on track.

Constant Improvement: On the way home from every wedding we do a run down on our favorite parts of the day, as well as anything we want to differently. As I cull and edit photos I give feedback on things I want to see more or less of, or even just the photos that make my heart flutter.

Enhanced Communication: After a ceremony a few weeks ago I had someone come up to me and comment on me and Tyler’s silent communication. Since we are used to working together, we communicate more effectively, often without the need for words. This is especially important during the more intimate parts of the day.

Backup and Redundancy: Having two photographers means there is a built-in backup in case one has an issue with equipment or any other unforeseen circumstance. This provides an extra layer of security for the day.

Comprehensive Coverage: With two photographers, more aspects of your wedding can be covered. I can be with one of you getting ready while Tyler captures the other, so no important moments are missed.

This blog started as a more general “What It’s Like” but I can really only speak for me and Tyler. Every marriage is different and I’m sure not all married photography teams are like us. What I do know, though, is that I love what he and I have built here. We work together in every aspect of life, and to be able to continue that in my career is something I am grateful for every day.
